Extending the medians

At almost all of the intersections in our neighborhood, the median ends well short of the crosswalk. Extending the median and adding a "thumbnail" median in the intersection keeps cars out of the crosswalk and turns a median into a pedestrian refuge.

DPT recently extended the median at 30th and Dolores. In this case, the thumbnail is in the crosswalk, rather than outside, and there is no landscaping.

Pros

• Inexpensive
• Slows traffic (in our neighborhood especially, corners are so rounded that cars can currently make very fast turns)

Cons

• Without landscaping, the medians are unattractive
